Character: Nada is a young female who has suffered a lot. She has survived three surgeries and a systemic wound infection after her last surgery, but she is still fighting. Her eyes show how strong she is and how much she wants to live. She is very gentle and when people approach she greets them with a smile.
Unfortunately, Nada will never walk and her new family must be prepared for life with a dog with special needs. Nada is currently undergoing rehabilitation to be able to use her wheelchair and to regain mobility in her left front paw, which further atrophied after Nada's battle with the infection. All of us at Paws of Smederevo are doing everything we can to provide her with all the necessary conditions to recover and start using her wheelchair regularly, so that she can find her home and family.

Story: On a cold February morning our association was contacted because a dog was seen by the road not moving and howling for help. Immediately our volunteers went to check out the situation and by the busy road we found her, alone and in great pain. We saw that she was injured but we didn’t know the extent of it. Quickly she was taken to the local veterinarian and after that to a better equipped clinic. Unfortunately the prognosis was not good, the dog’s spine was severed and one of her hind legs broken, she couldn’t move and the doctor told us that she had to have at least two surgeries to stabilize her, but even than she wouldn’t be able to move her hind legs. All of us in Paws of Smederevo were devastated but we wanted to help as much as we could and the rescued dog showed great will to live, we felt as she smiled at us when we pet her and we couldn’t leave her. She was given a new name that we felt showed her spirit - Nada (or in English Hope). We immediately started searching for ways to get the money needed for the operations and for people who could work with Nada after the operation and help her mobility and teach her to use the wheelchair she would need.

Unfortunately, all the progress that Nada had had, went down the drain after Nada's last operation, which was supposed to be routine and final, because then the implants that stabilized her spine until it healed were removed. In the area of the wounds, an infection was developed due to an autoimmune reaction during the removal of the implant, and then the fight for Nada's life began again! Nada's fighting spirit and strength saved her once again, with the help of veterinarians. The rehabilitation is ongoing and we hope that Nada will continue to get stronger.
